Fagus sylvatica (Beech) – pleach

Fagus sylvatica or Beech is one of the most popular British trees. It can grow very large and stately, or can be kept clipped into a pleach, hedge or topiary. Beech has darker green leaves in the summer, contrasting with lighter, silvery-gray bark. In the autumn, the leaves change to yellow then coppery bronze, and are retained on the plant well into late winter or early spring.
